Teyana Taylor quickly became a nationwide trending topic today when she stirred the waters in whichRihanna's "Navy" is anchored.

Two weeks ago, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper/singer posted an Instagram vid of her singing Anita Baker's "Caught in the Rapture." Earlier this morning, Rihanna posted to the same social media site a clip of her hairstylist Yusef singing the same segment of the song while wearing a long wig and a snapback — a style that's become a signature of sorts for Taylor.

TT allowed no time for that to marinate. She responded via Twitter with, "Don't play wit me @rihanna f--k all this industry s--t, YOU & I know each other VERY well. Throwing subs 4 wat? u got my #, don't show off."

Rih's super fans, who call themselves the "Navy," also got in on the war of words, to which Taylor responded, "y'all could bully everybody else & get away wit that s--t but that s--t ain't gone work ova here. so y'all could miss me with that NAVY s--t."

In the begining of the spat, Rihanna's timeline was mostly out of the direct light: "Screaming in an empty room! #dontfeedtheanimals." Rih refused to directly mention Taylor until she posted a picture comparing her net worth ($90 million) to the Harlem-born singer's income ($500,000).

Taylor hit back at the slight with her own brand of venomous humor.

"90 million dollars & 90 million n----s diving in that b---h box," Taylor tweeted after changing the photo on her Twitter page to feature a photoshopped image of her punching Rihanna in a boxing match. It's no accident that Taylor used the infamous photograph of Rihanna following her 2009 assault at the hands of Chris Brown.

2Face Splashes N3m On Peace Award Winners

Three winners emerged over the weekend from the 2Face Peace Awards organized by 2Face Idibia to commemorate the World Peace Day. The event took place at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja on Saturday, September 21, 2013. 

The winners received N1million each to use in furthering the various peace causes they have been involved in. They were selected across-section of young Nigerians between the ages of 18 to 35, whose initiatives helped in promoting peace in their areas for at least 18 months.

The awards kicked off the ‘Million Voices for Peace’ campaign established by the ‘African Queen’ crooner’s ‘Reach-out Foundation’. 

The winners were: Kyenpiya Jessica Makan-Nyabam of the CLAPAI (Child Love And Protection Advocacy Initiative) Orphanage, Jos. CLAPAI was set up in 2006 by Kyenpiya and her husband, Emmanuel, an ex-professional footballer, to cater for children orphaned, affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. They also care for children outside the orphanage and Emmanuel uses sports to engage the older youth in the community to foster peace.

Another winner was the Christian Muslim Peace Movement based in Bauchi and Jos. The group consists of some young volunteers led by Aminu Garba Sidi, who do conflict mediation, peace sensitization and other activities in schools and communities. They also work in NYSC camps and are contact persons and mobilizers for other peace projects in Nigeria.

The last but not the least winner was Zainab Sandah, who also received an honourable mention. She is involved in mobilizing and assisting the conflict prone Rigassa community in Kaduna in their efforts to access public sector education. She assisted in setting up a VSAT with computers for a community skills centre.

Speaking at the event, 2Face Idibia charged the winners to continue in their efforts to support the poor and promote peace in Nigeria. He explained that the MVP was meant to re-orientate the “mindset of Nigerians to realize the senselessness in many of the conflicts and killings going on and let them know that peace is the only condition for progress.
According to him, “most times, when they tell you the reason for some of the conflicts, you will be very surprised and disappointed. As award winners, you are now peace ambassadors. People will be more interested in what you do. You have to continue to maintain the high standards you have set.”

Present at the event were the president of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who urged the rich to support the poor more; the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), who represented by David Manya Dogo and Prof Braide, DG IPRC and the representative of the First Lady's Peace Mission Mrs Betty Bassey.

The Lagos State-born actress cum producer, who reportedly funkified her real name, Rukayat Adesanya, to Rukky Sanda, is not new to controversies just like her pal, Tonto.

Even though she is not one of the busiest actresses in the Nigerian movie industry or her self-produced movie known to be a blockbusting film, she is one of the celebrities in the country who lives in one of the highbrow areas of Lagos and also cruises around with an expensive ‘mobile home’, which some of the veterans in the industry can’t boast of or have hope of acquiring.

Though Nigerians go through many challenges caused by poor leadership, which has continually failed to make life worth living well for its citizens, the entertainment industry has provided a cushion for many Nigerians to rely on when they need to get cheered up. Little wonder most Nigerians care much about those who entertain them and give them something to cheer about.

That could explain the criticisms some Nigerian celebrities faced during the January 2012 Occupy Nigeria protest when some of them threw their weights behind the Federal Government on fuel subsidy.

Speaking with Nigeriafilms.com in an exclusive interview (conducted on October 1, 2012, in Lagos), when asked what she would like God to do for the country if given the opportunity by the Creator to make such request, Rukky Sanda stated that she will asked God to make Nigeria fair, but noted that she isn’t complaining about the bad situation of the country since she is living large.

In her words, “I pray that the country would be fair.” When asked to explain what she meant by Nigeria being fair, Rukky explained that, “I can’t complain (of the bad situations in the country) because I have a good life, I am lucky [for that] and I thank God [for that also], but I pray that the less privileged ones get what they want.”
