From TV host to Afro Pop Star? Listen to Sophy Aiida’s Debut Single “Break It Down”


Some of you may recognize her as the co-host of “The Green Room” at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards in New York; or, as the co-host of the 2012 Kora Awards ceremony in Abdjan, but this strapping young woman, Sophy Aiida is taking a foray into Afro Pop.
Born and raised in Paris and now based in New York City, USA, she’s more well-known as an actress and TV host. With her debut single, “Break It Down” she’s ready to change all that.

Sweeping Swift! Taylor Swift Rules The Roost With Eight Trophies From The Billboard Music Awards

Taylor Swift and her 3.7 million-selling “Red” dominated the 2013 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 19), taking home eight trophies as Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know” swept four major song categories and Rihanna ruled R&B.
The Las Vegas show aired from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. “30 Rock” alum Tracy Morgan hosted, with Don Mischer producing.

Swift swept us all as the Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 artist in ceremonies held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where awards were handed out in 45 categories. Swift received the night’s top honor, Artist of the Year, as well as Top Billboard 20 Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Country Artist and Top Digital Songs Artist. “Red” was Tops in the Billboard 200 and country albums categories; her “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was named Top Country Song.
“Thank you for making my music the soundtrack to your crazy emotions,” she said in a thank you to fans after being named artist of the year. “You are the longest and best relationship I’ve had.”

Prince, who performed a medley of his classic “Let’s Go Crazy,” Edgar Winter’s instrumental “Frankenstein” and “Fix Ur Life Up,” was given the Icon Award for a career that includes 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles.
Besides, Gotye, Rihanna was the only other artist to walk away with four awards, winning in the R&B artist, album and song categories, plus Radio Songs Artist. Madonna, Nicki Minaj and One Directionwon three each while Justin Bieber, the late Jenni Rivera, Baauer and tobyMac secured two honors apiece.

The Milestone Award, voted on by fans, went to Justin Bieber, who paused for about 20 seconds before speaking his mind about criticisms directed his way.
“I’m 19 years old, and I think I’m doing a pretty good job,” he said before thanking his family, fans and Jesus Christ. “It should be about the music, about the craft. This is not a gimmick. I should be taken seriously.”
