[Music] : NayoSoul[@NayoSoul] - Go Where You Are

NAYOSOUL', born Odunayo Ayorinde, is a Nigerian Soul/Jazz singer, Vocalist and songwriter.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Nayosoul she listened to her grandmother and sisters sing in the choir and later explained that this may have inspired her interest in music.
When she was 17 or 18 years old, Naysoul started writing lyrics for music touching on any topic that came to mind, especially Christian music. Her primary singing experience came from "singing in the shower". She was groomed in the Church choir and started taking 'solos' at the age of 14 where she one day discovered her love for soul/jazz music.

An impeccable songwriter, her music is rooted in Jazz music, soul music, blues of the past and indie music. Still grounded in the urban sound of today however, Nayosoul fuses a number of the music elements she grew up listening to and inspired by her surroundings, she writes the most relatable songs.

With tracks such as Veronica, Ditty Ditty O, Acoustic Recording of Rhythm of the Sound and more, work on ‘Journey to Self’ dragged out for over nearly one year due to her pursuit for perfection and musical integrity. The EP is a graft of neo-soul music, acoustic sessions, dubstep music and pop soul style productions.

The 1st single off the EP titled ‘Go where you are’ is due for release on the 26th. The pop soul song inspired by music from Asa and Bruno Mars is produced by IBK, mixed and mastered by IKON of Syndik8 records.

NΑYOSOUL cites Nneka, Asa, Janelle Monae, and Bruno Mars as important influences on her music.

My Style: Aggrey Aggrey

My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija029
No one can rock a three-piece suit or a regular denim and white shirt like I can” – Aggrey Aggrey
My Style is one of our favourite features on the BN Style page, and judging from the responses it gathers, I can safely say, it has our readers interested.
BellaNaija reader Aggrey Aggrey is our My Style focus for this edition. Aggrey is a Fashion loving Nigerian who grew up in Benin. He is currently studying Engineering, working in the Financial Services sector by day and his upcoming shoe line by night in the UK. With a love for fashion and all things beautiful, Aggrey believes that first impressions matter a lot and loves to express his individuality through his outfits.
My Style Is
An expression of my individuality. It is impossible to define my style by a specific fashion definitions because I do not fit into any out there. I love to play around with different options with the key rules of colour and fitting always being taken into consideration.
Where Style Meets Personality
Growing up, I used to be a very shy kid who would have never written a piece for BellaNaija. Over the years, I have become more confident in social gatherings and I partly attribute this to compliments I sometimes get on my fashion sense. No matter what anyone says, we all like being complimented and made to feel like we look good. This has definitely made me a more confident and open person and my style reflects that.
I’ll like to think I am a fun loving and warm person. You tend to see this in my daily style choices of warm, sweet and cheerful colours. I love summer colours and I wear them all year round.
Where I Shop Till I Drop
I generally like all good quality brands and designer shopping outlets. At the moment I currently like to buy labels like Vivienne Westwood, Polo Ralph Lauren, Reiss, TM Lewin, Tie Bar, GStar, Tie Rack, Zara, JC Crew…they’re a lot.
Most of the time, I do all my shopping online or check for what I want online and pop into the shop to try the clothes on and pay; all in 15 minutes or there about. Secondly, I tend to spend more on accessories than clothes. This is because most times you can get away with a regular denim trouser and a white shirt. But the right bracelet, shoe, hat or pocket square takes your look a couple of notches past the dude with the regular boring outfit.
Hair Glam
I haven’t got a favourite look when it comes to hair and it all depends on the mood I’m in before I sit on the barber’s chair. Sometimes, I want a medium fade or a side and nape taper. On other days I just want a buzz cut.
I sometimes get into trouble with the Mrs on this one; she says no matter what I go for, it has to be clean and cut weekly. My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija023
Day Time Express
On chilled-out days I try to look nice but comfy. I wear a lot of boat shoes, velvet slippers, shorts, polo shirts, jumpers, leather jackets, colourful chinos and jeans. For me, chilled-out doesn’t mean boring so I still try to have some interesting & colourful clothes on.My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija039My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija036My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija031My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija006My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija017
What I Wear to Work
I love the fact that my job gives me the chance to get dressed everyday and does not restrict me to boring colour choices. You’ll often catch me in a regular or three piece suit, double cuffed shirt, tie, colourful pocket square, braces and wing tips.My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija060My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija025My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija021My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija020My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija019My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija018My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija009
I Own the Night
Going out with the boys or my colleagues is always a blend of fashion styles. This is where I get to have a little fun. Basically it’s a cross breed between my regular look and my work look. I get to wear some brogues (with colourful laces), albert slippers, sport jackets, braces, waistcoats and if I’m in a really fun mood, I would add some casual tartan, cotton or jean bow tie.My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija008My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija011My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija033My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija045My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija050My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija051My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija056
I Think Every Guy Should Have
If I was to pick I would have to say ties, socks and pocket squares. I love vibrant colours and there is no better way of adding colour to an otherwise bland outfit than with a beautiful tie, sock or pocket-square.
In general, I am not big on sunglasses. I just got a couple of pairs and I pretty much wear the same one every day. I am not a big fan of man bags but I got a couple that come in handy on those short weekend trips or when I am heading to the gym.

My Advice for other Stylish Guys
Fashion is all about confidence at the end of the day. You have to love what you wear because, trust me, everyone else can tell when you’re uncomfortable. You might rock the coolest and most expensive suit, pants or shirt but without the confidence and charisma you just wouldn’t look right. My Style Aggrey Aggrey - June 2013 - BellaNaija058
If I could Steal a Celebrity’s Wardrobe
There are loads of styles to choose from. I am torn between Ryan Gosling, Nick Wooster, Scott Disick, Tinie Tempah and Ryan Leslie. This question is hard oh. Scott Disick gets my vote. The Man is a style icon but unfortunately he knows it. Who else would say “When you think of a debonair, ridiculously good-looking guy, you think of me“. He’s got a really wicked sense of style and constantly looks dapper, colourful and chic even in a Polo Ralph Lauren tee. To top it up, he has also got a beautiful collection of Alberto Moretti Arfango shoes, who can say no to that?

Which Celebrity Stole My Look
There are so many we’ll dressed Nigerian men. Too many to decide. How about you decide BellaNaijarians.
My Style Philosophy
I haven’t got any stringent fashion rules to live by other than my outfits just have to fit properly and have a bit of colour. At the end of the day it’s all about having the confidence that you look good in whatever you decide to wear. Wear your clothes, don’t let them wear you.
Thanks a lot to Aggrey for sharing his style with us. For more information about his style follow him on Twitter/Instagram handle @Aggrey234

Relationship; Men are dogs, Women are snakes

A picture is worth a thousand words
A picture is worth a thousand words
“My wife can never cheat on me.” (said with conviction). Those were the words of one of my older friends when asked if his future wife would ever cheat on him. So I asked him why he felt that way, “why don’t you think your wife will ever cheat on you?”. His response? “Women just don’t cheat like that.” I coughed, scratched my neck, turned around to make sure I was the only one that heard such a naive statement, and proceeded to laugh like I was watching an old school episode of Papa Ajasco. I can’t believe he just said that… like, u no dey watch Desperate Housewives? or Snapped? Or have u been living under a rock for most of your life? But then again, it dawned on me that a good number of men feel that way – that their women can’t cheat or that for some reason women don’t have urges to just creep with Jose the gardener, or Monday the house boy. If they only knew.
They say experience is the best teacher, and as cliche as that sounds, it truely is. My lesson came at the hands of my first girlfriend in college in Nigeria. I was just as naive as my dear friend mentioned above. So when my girlfriend told me she was virgin and that she was saving herself for marriage, and all that good stuff, I believed it – swallowed and digested it like it came straight from the Bible. Turned out that she was giving the goods to some other guy that I knew, and I was there forming holy holy, and playing patient, understanding boyfriend. Yeah I know – just low. Funny thing is that I didn’t know until about 3-4 months after we broke up. It’s so interesting how the victim is the last one to know. SAnyways, these days when a girl tells me she’s a virgin, I smile, and sarcastically reply “I’m a virgin also. We’re all virgins…lol.” Sorry, but the only virgin I know is the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I bring this up as my own personal example of how some women (not all) can be very sneaky, and deceitful. I was being nosey today on some nigerian blogs, and came across very interesting gist on Linda Ikeji’s blog about Ikechukwu’s (Killz) girlfriend cheating on him with his good friend. According to Linda Ikeji, his facebook status after he found out, read: “Kills is single. Women cheat and with your friend too? Of all the women out there, aint life grand?….Men and women are equally animals when they choose to be.” Wow. Looks to me that Killz didn’t see this coming at all. That had to hurt.
*
*
The common notion has been, and to a certain degree still is, that men are dogs, men cheat without any remorse, and women are innocent victims that deal with these useless men, and get hurt time and time again, while remaining so faithful to their spouses. Really? I personally disagree. I do think men cheat, but I also think women cheat too… probably just as much as men do. The difference? Women cover their tracks very well. They have a lie to cover the lie that covers the first lie. They never confess….EVER!, and their stories always line up perfectly – well, almost perfectly. As my homeboy would say, “a woman can sleep with someone and pretend it never happened, and just like that, it never happened.” Women are just plain sneaky… kinda like snakes. Men on the other hand, are like dogs. Some men will hump some and everything that has a female reproductive system. They will probably leave traces all over the place, fumble on lies, and tell lies that don’t even make sense – like “I was watching the game at my friend’s place”… even though she knows fully well that the game ended 4 hours ago. Just like dogs, men commit the crime and leave the evidence hanging all over the place. It’s just plain pitiful sometimes.
Bottom line is that women might not necesarrily cheat more than men, but they sure do cheat better than men do.
So as I conclude this post while listening to TLC’s song Creep, I can’t help but think, If I had spent more time listening to the lyrics of that song, instead of dancing the butterfly, I might have learned a thing or two about women creeping, and saved myself some harsh lessons. Or maybe I would’ve just learned the way I did – via experience. Your thoughts… who cheats more? who cheats better? who rarely cheats? who is more of the victim?

Fun Until Feelings: The Unintended Shift From Unattached to Attached

black-man-grabbing-black-woman
When single and wanting to maintain that status because of desires to have fun; usually consisting of casual or consistent sex and talking to several people at once to boost up ones own morale, while perhaps also gaining sexual and even financial favors are typically the objection for such single ones when meeting someone new.  After meeting a new person who the individual may either find physically attractive or otherwise- but because they show interest may therefore be entertained, most likely will be stored as a new phone contact and thus the beginning of regular or even random communication.  Mindful of the fun he/she wishes to gain out of the potential “relationship,” motives whether direct or indirect are displayed.  In many cases however, what originally was meant to be a distant and selfish relationship based off of fun and games, turns into strong feelings of fondness, joy, and entitlement.
“Catch no feelings” is a phrase frequently echoed by the experienced and careful, which almost serves as a code of conduct when dealing with the opposite sex because it warns against the subconscious development of unintended feelings.  Obviously, when single and having fun, the point is not to have a care in the world (while still being safe) and to satisfy personal interests.  Any other outcomes like feeling the absence of and wanting to know whereabouts are emotions that having fun avoids, and in the words of Sweet Brown, “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”  Clearly, such emotions were never the intention, but when it turns into that, that single person must decide whether or not they can handle that their feelings toward the person they have been casually involved with has changed.  Unfortunately, having fun tends to be a selfish course but when two people are on the same page, the merrier. Also, the truth is, having fun does not only include sexual and financial pleasure but going places and doing things recreationally enjoyable.
For those not careful; regular exchange and private time spent can lead to “catching” feelings which changes the initial approach from carefree to concerned. At the beginning when motives are directly or indirectly displayed, which can include being sexually pushy or subliminal about financial and sexual wants, at some point there becomes a different mindset where having fun takes a backseat and one becomes way more involved emotionally, physically and even financially than intended.
For example, a guy friend of mine who never meant for things to have gotten serious with a young lady who because of physical appearance would have never considered anything outside of a sexual relationship grew attached.  At first, he like many single guys had a deceptive approach used to convince the young lady into believing he was sincere with mature intentions.  His games and way with words were well received and returned with kind and caring gestures, and soon enough, sex.  As imagined, for her, sex created a sense of possession over him and she therefore began treating the “relationship” as something worth working on: investing time and energy.  Subconsciously, she became someone he could trust and got comfortable around.  When he knew of other men trying to talk to her he got jealous and frustrated whenever time spent together was interrupted.  However, no doubt were there moments when he was disappointed with where things escalated to but felt it was foul to end it and not to mention, he simply became emotionally attached.
For some, developing feelings are an inevitable result, especially if things are not kept in check.  Too much time spent talking, sleeping over, and doing things together only leads to developing feelings.  And while some will accept the change or even struggle with it, others find being attached a headache they cannot handle thus finding a way out.
