After keeping fans in suspense, Africa’s most anticipated lyrical genius X.O Senavoe is back on a “Beautiful” note. BBA 8: Housemates engage in kissing galore

Click for Full Image Size

A casual game of spin the bottle in the garden resulted in Ghana’s Selly reaching over to Angola’s Biguesas for a passionate kiss much to the amusement and applause of her fellow housemates. This was in between the housemates’ first nominations session in the game.

South Africa’s Koketso could not match up to Selly’s antics when it was her turn to kiss Zambia’s Sulu. Koketso simply hugged the dreadlocked Zambian and gave him a perk on the cheek.

However, it seemed to be Sulu’s lucky day as the green bottle pointed to Selly to give him a warm smooch, almost to make up for Koketso’s shortcomings.

After Koketso’s ‘cheating’, one housemate was heard suggesting that; “from now on it’s either we French kiss or we stop playing the game.” From then on, it was kissing galore on the lips.

Our eyes are wide open as we wait in anticipation of what these kisses will turn into.

Just when the housemates were starting to get acquainted, with some even starting to like each other in a suspicious way, Nigeria’s Beverley was the first to nominate Housemates to be evicted.

The rest of the Housemates were left in deep thought about their own nominations. Others, like Bassey, carried on doing their own thing and tried not to think a lot about what would be going down in the Diary Room.

While most Chasers were not entirely confident with their nominations, the likes of Pokello and LK4 kept their choices simple and their reasons clear, showing that they’ve given a lot of thought to the Nomination Session.

The rest of Housemates’ reasons were rather personal and unacceptable to Biggie, in which case Biggie asked them to give alternative and relevant reasoning.

All Housemates, however, insisted that none of the nominations were ‘personal’.

[Nollywood] Tribalism Is Killing Nollywood--Halima Abubakar

Tribalism is one issue that has affected so many people negatively in Nigeria. It has become a cankerworm in almost all the facets of our life; and it has eaten deep into the fabric of our society. One effect it leaves behind is corruption, nepotism and lack of productivity.

In the Nigerian setting, it is very common for some people to discriminate because of someone's ethnic background. Some people have even likened tribalism to racial abuse. Though in marriages, the issue is gradually being defeated as we have had inter-ethnic marriages, the menace is still very dominant in most professions in Nigeria.

In Nollywood, one does not need a soothsayer to know that tribalism has taken over the industry. It is common to see this in most interest groups and associations formed in the industry.

While those from the Yoruba tribe are dominant in the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners of Nigeria (ANTP), those from the Igbo extraction are prominent in Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). Interestingly, both groups represent the interests of actors in Nollywood.

Click for Full Image Size
In the same vein, those in ANTP suffer inferiority complex whenever they are in the midst of AGN members. Only few from ANTP camp have had the courage to mix with those in AGN. Also, whenever any of the groups organizes a programme, it is very rare to see representatives of other groups.

However, one person who wishes to put an end to this issue of dichotomy in the movie industry in Nigeria is beautiful actress, Halima Abubakar.

In a chat with Nigeriafilms.com recently, the Kogi State-born actress admitted that she has suffered a lot from tribalism in Nollywood. When asked one thing she would like to change in Nollywood, Halima was quick to say it is “tribalism.”

She said, “I have experienced tribalism, I know people would say it is a lie, but that is the truth.” “Why have those from a particular group not reached out to people who are not specifically from their areas?” she asked.

“I have worked with a lot of Igbos, my marketer is Igbo, I have worked with a lot of them and I know those I have not worked with, I have not seen the right roles for me yet, but I believe they will come. But how about others, who are independently shooting movies, does that mean those are the only set of actors in Nollywood?

“I am not saying they should give me roles, but there are people who want to see fresh faces. We need to give others opportunity to showcase their talents,”
she emphasized.

The celebrated actress however advised that tribalism should be stopped in Nollywood. “I am saying, stop tribalism and bring everyone under the umbrella of AGN,” Halima said.

Ex-MBGN Munachi Abii in love with 18-yr-old rapper

Briss and Muna spending some quality time in Dubai. Photo: Instagram/Briss
Don’t we just love when our Nigerian celebrities set it off and fall in love (or lust) with each other? It has come to our attention that beauty queen turned rapper Munachi Abii is romantically involved with Pop group, L.O.S band member Olade Brisbe better known as Briss.
The couple, we are told, have been in a hot romance for the past few months and they’ve managed to keep it under the wraps with only very close friends in the know.
We are also told Muna has confided in her close friends, telling them she’s in love with the 18-year-old rapper. Briss, an upcoming rapper started gaining buzz when the Urban-Pop music group L.O.S (the group consists of three other members – Yung, Tomi and Bridge) signed with Storm Records and released their popular single ‘Bad guy P’.
Briss who is currently an undergraduate in a Dubai university spends time shuttling Lagos and the U.A.E but his schooling hasn’t stopped the ‘lovers’ from hooking up – sources tell us Briss, (who is from quite a wealthy family) has on several occasions flown Muna over just to be with her.
Briss last April posted a photo of himself and Muna cooling off in a Dubai beach. ‘At the beach.. Ofcourse Muna being a mess lol #dubai’, Briss wrote as he posted the photo on his Instagram. Muna in turn has been quite supportive of Briss and his group’s music. If she’s not tweeting about their new songs, she’s chatting up with the other band members.
Some dated tweets between Muna and Briss also suggest there’s something holding on between them:
@muna01: ‘@BrisB_LOS duuuude wen r u back?
@BrisB_LOS: very very soon muna! booked a flight already tho. How you now?
@muna01@BrisB_LOS: chillin boo.
@BrisB_LOShope your good sha.
But speaking with NET over the telephone Muna denies being romantically involved with Briss. ‘That sounds ridiculous, I’m in a relationship with someone else’, Muna told NET.
Muna turns 26 this November. In 2007, she won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant.
Before the MBGN crown, she had however shown interest in music, rapping under the name Babyrella. She recorded a rap duet with Terry tha Rapman whom it is rumoured she dated at that time.
In 2010, she changed her name to Muna and signed a management deal with Ayo Shonaiya’RMG Company, launching her music career.
She has gone on to feature with the likes of Waje, Kel, Michael Word, Banky W, DJ Jimmy JATT andPsquare.
And Briss is not the first Nigerian artiste Muna has been rumoured to be involved with. We are told she has also allegedly been involved with several other acts including D’banj, M.I, Wizkid and Peter Okoye. Of course the sister continues to – vehemently – deny these unconfirmed reports.
Lol. I guess some people r gonna b living 4 a while RT @: Liar liar liar liar liars never die. Only when they die..

[INSPIRED] Who Says Gender Doesn’t Matter?

A few days ago, I was chatting with a dear friend and referred her to my website to have a look-see. Few minutes later she was back on the chat, bristling with excitement, and then she used the dreaded word.
“I sense feminist undertones,” she said, regarding the website. “I am one (a feminist) at heart so I always know when I meet a soul sister.”
Feminist. Soul Sister. She could not have painted ‘the’ picture any better. What came to my head was the image of a woman with long dreadlocks wrapped with a white scarf, wearing a white gown, drinking Beer with other ‘soul sisters’. It was an image I was not comfortable with.
Last few weeks, I posted a link on my Facebook wall of Chimamanda’s speech ‘We should all be Feminists’. The speech, eloquent and insightful, had thrilled me with its factual content more than the title had, so when I shared it expecting responses on the content of the speech, I was quite surprised when a friend of mine, a guy, posted on my wall:
“What is the big deal about the speech? You guys don’t realise that these days, men don’t care who’s important, but who gets what’s to be done, done. You guys need to move on, there’s more to life than equality between genders”.
So I sat and thought: Does the fight for gender equality really matter?
Let me break these facts down and then you be the judge -
  • If a man and a woman with the same qualification, interview for a job, there is a 70% probability that the man would be hired over his female counterpart.
  • In the same scenario as above, there is a 90% possibility that the man would be paid higher than the woman in an organisation without established benefits for different levels of staff
  • More often than not, a woman would spend at least five years of her life raising children (if she has children) and she would be more than often pressured to settle for a job that would stunt her career growth so she can have more time for her children or she would have to give up working altogether.
  • More often than not, society agrees that a wife should not earn more than her husband if she does not want to be seen as ‘controlling’.
  • Many single women have had to give up better jobs or packages or hide their worldly possessions so they can seem more attractive to men
  • When a woman is young and pretty, she will most likely get a job as a Customer Service Representative or as a Marketer without rigorous interview, almost automatically.
  • If a woman is intelligent and outspoken, she may not be a ‘good’ wife.
  • If a man helps out with the house chores, more often than not, it will be said that the woman has used her feminine wiles to charm him.
  • Many young ladies use their sexuality to get want they want – most times, what they want is a man to take care of their needs. They are never taught to reach for more other than their immediate needs, which, they are told, can be satisfied by men.
  • The writhing bodies of endowed women are best served in music videos. You never see a naked man, only women. I wonder why that is.
  • If you advocate for women to be more financially independent at every stage of life, most people who have not met you would assume you are a single older woman, bitter about life and trying to drag everyone along to your level of bitterness.
  • If you’re a woman and you tell someone you want to be a CEO of a conglomerate someday, most likely you are joking or fanciful or just had one too many drinks.
  • If a couple splits, almost everyone would assume it’s the fault of the woman.
So, after going through all these, if you think they are true, ask yourself why gender equality is a big issue in many African societies today, and if it’s worth the fight.
I rest my case.
